Brrrr, It's Chilly Outside!

With winter still holding a tight grip on our weather patterns here in Missouri, yesterday's rain and sleet made for a perfect day for a chili supper.  Only this time, I decided to change things up a bit and try a brand new recipe that a friend had posted on her facebook page back when it was actually supposed to be winter.

And so I went back to find her post from none other than Pinterest!

I did a little adjusting to fit our family's tastes...
*I added a pound of deer meet that I cooked with onion and garlic in my electric skillet
*I used tomato sauce (3 small cans) instead of tomato paste and water
*I used chili beans and kidney beans (1 can each), no black beans
*I was out of chili powder :( but did add extra garlic

Here's what my bowl looked like before I devoured it.

Let me just say that the crockpot is a wonderful invention, but having your supper smell so yummy all throughout the day while you are at home and PREGNANT is not nice to my stomach.  All day I kept dreaming of finally being able to sit down and actually eat what I had been smelling all day!

And I think everyone was satisfied with the outcome!

Look at the string of cheese, Mommy!
It's THIS long!
All done!

Everyone had two bowls (except Kellah).  Coralyn doesn't usually like sweet potatoes, but she didn't complain one little bit about them being in her soup.  It tasted so good, I don't think she even noticed them -- or the quinoa!

I didn't tell Lawrence I did anything different, and he gobbled up two bowls when he got home from working on grad school papers and assignments.

I will definitely be using this recipe in the future!  Thanks, Michele Keethler for the tip!
