If Your Why Doesn't Make You Cry...

Well, last night I was certainly in tears as I thought about WHY I joined this crazy It Works business almost three months ago.  As I reflected on what I hope to accomplish as a result of this "job," I couldn't help but get emotional.

During the meeting, several women who received promotions this past month shared their stories -- when they got started as It Works distributors and why they took the leap of faith in the first place.  So many of them shared how at the beginning they just wanted to make a little extra money so they could get their nails done and go shopping without feeling guilty spending the cash or having their husbands give them a hard time about using their money for those things.  And now, these women don't have to bat an eye when it comes to paying for a manicure or pedicure or buying a new outfit.  That's great...for them.

But, honestly, that doesn't even strike a cord with me.  Maybe it does with you, and that's great...for you!  And if you want to join the team so that you can be able to do some "extra" things for yourself, then power to you!  I will help you and support you every step of the way.

For me, though, this It Works thing has never been about spending money on myself.  I have a very hard time doing that in general as it is, and I don't think that having more money in my bank account will ever change that.  Though, I am thinking about going out and buying things like socks and underwear and a few pairs of yogo pants to wear around the house as I do daycare.  The three to four pairs of yoga/exercise pants I wear throughout the week have gotten their fair share of snot, drool, chalk, food stains, spit up, and even puke on them the past 3.5 years.  One pair I got way back in college (or maybe even high school).  Another pair I bought right before Coralyn was born to have to wear home from the birth center.  And the third pair was free, as I got it from a friend.  So, I think it would be okay to "splurge" and buy some new yoga pants.  I won't tell you about my socks and underwear or how long I have had those, that just might be too much information to share! :)  Let's just say, getting new ones is long overdue!

I digress.  Back to WHY I joined It Works in the first place and WHY this "job" is so very important to me. I have THREE why's actually, and I am pretty passionate about all of them.  So much so that I was crying last night as I thought about what they mean to me, what succeeding in this business means to me, what fulfilling these dreams would mean not just to our family but to countless others as well.

1. JESUS.  What does Jesus have to do with It Works, you might ask.  For me, everything.  My number one reason for becoming an It Works distributor was so that we could have extra money to use for the sole purpose of blessing others.  I know that being a blessing doesn't always mean giving someone money, but more often than not, money is required in helping others in some way or another.  Be it having extra snacks on hand for the Ponca Bible study kids or the neighborhood kids or our neighbors coming over for supper.  Be it supporting our friends who live overseas and spread the Good News on foreign soil.  Be it buying Christmas presents for a family who can't afford them that year.  Be it sponsoring kids so they can go to Ponca for a week of camp in the summer when they wouldn't have been able to otherwise.  Whatever the opportunity, we want to be able to give.  I know God always provides, but when you are counting pennies to pay your basic bills, it's hard to feel free and open to give abundantly and graciously when there is a need. It Works has made it possible for us to give over $700 to various people in various ways over the past 2 months alone!  I am so excited for all the opportunities ahead of us to make Jesus known as a result of my It Works "job!"

2. MY FAMILY.  I already stay at home with my girls.  BUT, I am also taking care of 3 other children every day.  Come January, I will have 4 daycare kiddos, plus a new baby of my own!  I am so thankful for these precious daycare children, and I love them dearly.  BUT, I do miss out on things like taking my own kids to the library for Storytime or the park or the zoo or to a friend's house. I don't get to spend time with other moms in programs like MOPS or even playgroups that much anymore, seeing as how I really can't leave the house from 7-4:30.  Yes, I am at home with my girls.  And yes, I am so grateful for that.  BUT, I want to "just" be a mom.  I want to focus all my energies on my children.  I want to fully enjoy them, while I can.  I know that if I blink too many more times, my girls are going to be in kindergarten and then graduating from high school and then walking down the aisle!  I want to treasure this short time with them as much as I fully can!  I HAVE to work though.  I HAVE to contribute to our family's income.  It Works lets me have the best of both worlds -- I get to work from home, set my own hours, fit the "job" into our regular schedule, and still do all the things I would like with my children!  Oh, and make enough money so that I don't need to do daycare!

3. HEALTH.  I am extremely passionate about health.  Not just mine, but everyone's.  Granted, I can't MAKE anyone be healthy.  I can't FORCE them to eat right and exercise.  I can't CHANGE the way people think about life or the choices they make.  But I can provide people with an affordable way to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  I can show them how to use our products to make the changes they want and need.  I can encourage them and support them as they make their journey towards good overall health.  It Works gives me the platform to help people get and stay healthy.  It's not just about weight loss, a number on a scale, the size of jeans you wear, or how you look in the mirror.  Oh no, it's so much more!  It's about being able to watch your kids and grandkids grow up, about being able to play basketball or baseball with them, about being able to push them on the swing at the park or ride a bike with them or go on a hike with them and explore the beauty of God's creation.  It's about growing old with those you love.  It's about making as many memories together as possible during your time on this earth.  It's about living life to the fullest, making the most of the time God gives us!  It Works helps me stay healthy, keep my family healthy, and teach others how to be healthy too.

So those are MY why's.

What would YOURS be?

No why is too small.  Or too big.

You might be the person who wants to get her nails done.  You might want to take a dream vacation to Disney World.  You might want to pay off your family's debt.  You might want to start a college fund for your children so they aren't paying off loans until they're 50.  You might want to have extra money to support missionaries, to fund a ministry God has laid on your heart, or to bless people in a variety of countless other ways.  You might want to quit your 8-5 job and stay at home with your kids.

Whatever your reason, whatever you WHY, I would love to help you accomplish those goals.  I would love to see you fulfill your dreams, and even surpass them!  I would love to show you how It Works can be a part of that process, as it has become for our family.

In just three months, It Works has already begun to change our lives.  I am excited to see what the next three months, and beyond, have in store for our family and the countless people whose lives are changed as a result of my connection to It Works!  I don't want anyone to miss out on the same opportunity.  I might cry if you did.  Seriously.  So, please think and pray about this crazy It Works thing!  I am begging you.  I know that I might sound like a broken record, posting on facebook every day and talking about It Works all the time.  I don't want to annoy or bug you.  I really, truly, from the depths of my heart want to BLESS you.  I guess that would be another WHY I can add to my list :)

If you have any questions at all or would like more information about using or selling these products, please let me know!  I would love to chat with you!
